An Aryan group member Sandeep Kukreti climbed atop a mobile phone tower near Rojgar Tiraha to protest against alleged biased police action on student leaders demanding release of student leaders arrested during protest in the DAV (PG) College. He was also demanding that college principal Devendra Bhasin be debarred from entering the college campus. The protesting student climbed down from the tower after about one and half hour after police released arrested student leaders. Dalanwala Police Station in-charge inspector Anil Kumar Joshi said that a case has been registered under section 309 of IPC against Kukreti for climbing atop the tower.
Meanwhile, a number of student leaders along with their supporters assembled at the college campus and began raising slogans when the principal Devendra Bhasin arrived in the college after some days of leave on medical grounds. Earlier on Wednesday, the college principal had met SSP and demanded additional security in the college campus.
The student leaders were witnessed expressing anger over the principal’s entry and demand his entry be prohibited till release of the report of inquiry being conducted into alleged irregularities in the admission process. The situation in the college campus turned disorderly when police closed the college’s main gate. Student leaders who were protesting outside the college gate somehow managed to reach the college principal’s cabin and sat on protest outside it raising slogans against police administration and the principal. The police had to use force to disperse the students before the situation could worsen. Some students and a few policemen were reportedly injured in the police cane charge.
More than a dozen students were also arrested under section 151 of CrPC by the police. They were later released after being challaned by the city magistrate. College teachers also expressed anger over student leaders creating nuisance on the campus. The teaching faculty members said that all the teachers are united on this issue and would not tolerate such nuisance being created by some students in the college. Some teachers have submitted written complaint against some student leaders in the police station.
Moreover, a case under sections 147/352/506/427 of IPC was registered against some unidentified student leaders in the Dalanwala Police Station, said inspector Joshi.
Irked over arrest of student leaders and police’s alleged biased action on students, an Aryan Group member Kukreti climbed atop a mobile phone tower and demanded release of all the protesters. In support of this demand, a number of student leaders also reached the site and sat on demonstration near the tower. Kukreti climbed down after spending about an hour and a half on the tower.
