The Khordha and Bhubaneswar District Congress Committees jointly on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) office here demanding immediate withdrawal of the power tariff hike decision. They submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the OERC Secretary appealing to him to intervene in the matter.
Around 1,000 Congress activists led by Bhubaneswar district Congress committee president Manoranjan Dash, senior leader Suresh Kumar Routray, Niranjan Patnaik and Sarat Pattnaik gheraoed the OERC office shouting anti-Government slogans.
The Congress leaders also staged demonstration at the all the district headquarters protesting the price hike in electricity tariff. They alleged that poor people especially farmers and BPl families would be the worst sufferer due to the hike.
