The Congress here made a scathing attack on the ruling BJD over the recent power tariff hike demanding its immediate rollback. Besides, it sought the Governor to order an audit of the accounts of the power distribution companies (distcoms).
PCC president Prasad Harichandan, while addressing a Press meet, said that the ruling party has backed out from its own promise and has deceived the people. The BJD had promised to provide free electricity to the farmers in its pre elections promises through its manifesto and surprisingly, the tariff burden is unbearable now. The business of the distribution companies, which by showing loss fled the State, should be audited by the CAG, demanded Harichandan, urging the Governor for ordering an audit.
Harichandan further said the distcoms fleeced the consumers and violated agreement made with the consumers to provide uninterrupted and quality power. Former Union Minister Srikant Jena , DCC president Kartik Mohapatra, former MlA Arun Dey and Satya Mohanty were among the leaders present.
Earlier while a meeting was held near Fandi square, several leaders including former Minister Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary and Sangram Jena lambasted the ruling BJD Government for hike in power tariff. They said that the agitation would be intensified if the decision is not reconsidered. A memorandum was submitted to the district Collector for the Governor.
