Congress will soon launch a helpline for women’s safety in Jharkhand. The information was shared by All India Women Congress president Shobha Ojha during a media interaction at the state capital on Monday. “We are hopeful to launch the toll free number for victimized women in the next 15 to 20 days. Being the opposition party in the Parliament we would play a proactive role in spreading awareness on various public schemes,” she said. It was Ojha’s first visit to the State after the formation of a stable Government by the NDA. She felt the incidents of crime over minor girls have increased in Jharkhand and it is important to sensitise the police and Government on the issue.
Ojha was here to attend the party’s women conference with the women’s wing of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) scheduled at Jamshedpur on Tuesday. She blamed both BJP ruled State Government at Jharkhand and Central government at New Delhi for making fake promises in proper implementation of Women’s Safety laws, land Acquisition Bill and other developmental schemes started during the regime of UPA Government at the Centre. “It is a matter of shame that Modiji’s government is still allowing Rajasthan leader Nihalchand Meghwal indulged in a rape case to work in the Parliament. Moreover, Union Minister Arun Jaitely has said that Nirbhaya gangrape has affected the tourism of the country,” pointed Ojha.
“Schemes like ICDS, MDM and SSA were supposed to benefit the economically weak population but it is enjoyed by corporate houses. For example, instead of increasing the direct tax, Modiji’s Government has increased indirect tax benefitting the corporate ones,” she added. Asked on her comments over the strength of the national party in the present scenario, she said that Congress is strong enough particularly in the women cadre.
