Hardly had the Capital city reached back to normalcy, troublemongers again tried to disrupt peace at Doranda area on late Monday night firing and torching
vehicles and houses.
As many as 50 people were arrested from the Doranda colonies, which have been converted into a fortress, while police confirmed that firing had taken place between two groups shouting slogans against each other.
A major clash was averted in Doranda on Monday when the two groups came against each other at Gaus Nagar area shouting slogans against each other which also gutted an auto-rickshaw into fire.
According to police, the two groups resorted to firing and also shouted slogans against each other but the matter was immediately taken into control due to timely intervention of the police. Following the incident, tension prevails in Doranda area and the shops remained closed in the area.
DGP DK Pandey visited tension-stricken Manitola and Gaus Nagar areas in Doranda, appealing people to maintain peace and not to pay attention to rumours spread by the anti-social elements to create disturbance in the state capital.
Senior police officials, however, said that the situation was completely under control.
“As we have started arresting the miscreants after identifying them following an intensive search operation in the affected areas, the situation is now totally under control. Taking a preventive measure, police force in some parts of the state capital have also been increased to avoid any untoward incident,” said DIG Arun Kumar Singh.
The DIG also confirmed that a clash following sloganeering between the two groups took place on Monday, where an auto was put on fire. He however, said that nobody was injured during the incident as the situation was immediately put under control by the police.
Senior administrative and police officials, including South Chotanagpur Commissioner KK Khandelwal along with the other officials also visited the affected areas appealing people to keep their shops open fearlessly as they were there to take proper care of them.
An emergency meeting in this regard was also called by Khandelwal at his office on Tuesday to take stock of the situation giving proper
instructions to the senior police officials.
“I have directed the district administration to identify the miscreants and arrest them immediately, increase patrolling in the affected areas and also to take preventive measures to check it to spread any further,” said Khandelwal. The police have also been asked keep the force ready to deal with any kind of exigency, said Khandelwal.
The Commissioner also stressed on taking preventive measures to take the situation under control. The meeting was also attended by DIG Arun Kumar Singh, DC Manoj Kumar, SSP Prabhat Kumar and all DSPs.
Meanwhile, uncertainty prevailed in Ranchi throughout the day as most of the private schools in Doranda remained closed on Tuesday. Even after the students reached their schools in the morning, they were turned back to their homes immediately after they reached there. Parents were informed through mobile phones to collect their children from schools.
The District administration, however, kept on making announcements for the whole day that situation was under control and not to give substance to rumours.
Opposition parties however, alleged BJP of taking political advantage by giving air to the communal tensions. The Congress holding a press conference termed it a failure of the Raghubar Das Government in the state for which people of Ranchi will never forgive.
Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) Chief Babulal Marandi, on the other hand, has demanded judicial enquiry into the whole episode. “The way State Government has failed to check the communal disturbances during the last few days itself raises question mark over the efficiency of this Government,” said Marandi.
