The students should work hard to achieve success in today’s world of competitive excellence, said Chief Minister (CM) of Uttarakhand while addressing the students at Student union function of DBS College here on Tuesday. He said that to achieve new heights it has become essential that one should be top among the toppers.

Addressing the programme as chief guest Rawat said the role of colleges and universities is of paramount importance in determining the success of the students. He elaborated that one of the scales to gauge ability and talent of the individual is from where one has pursued studies.

Emphasising the importance of youth, Rawat said that they are power house of the nation and India is a country where 66 Percent population is below 35 years old which makes it a nation of youth. He said that it should be the responsibility of Government and society to seek the ways to use the potential of youth towards progress of the nation. Rawat said that previous UPA Government had earmarked 6 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for education as the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh believed that it was shameful for both the Government and society if even a single person is left illiterate. Rawat added that Uttarakhand is the State which spends maximum amount on education when compared with other States on the scale of population. He claimed that the State has more colleges, engineering colleges, IIT and poly - technique institutes in proportion to the population than other States and that the State Government is committed for improvement in education in the State. He exhorted the students to focus on improvement in the quality of education and do their bit for creating a healthy and progressive educational environment in the State.
