The Punjab Government has asked all the civil surgeons to submit a monthly report regarding the activities of the multipurpose health workers of their respective districts.The directions, issued by the State Health and Family Welfare Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani, came after he visited Community Health Centre (CHC), Block Dhudike, in Moga district on Monday and suspended a multipurpose health worker on the charges of dereliction of duty.Jayani suspended multipurpose health worker (male) Mohinder Pal Singh, posted at CHC Moga, during his surprise check, after he failed to submit fortnightly report regarding active and passive blood slides of the patients and suspected cases of malaria and other diseases for the last one and a half year.
The Minister, who remained in the CHC Moga for about three hours, took stock of the proper hygiene including the availability of medicines for the patients.Finding the insincerity on the part of the employees not only as a crime but as a direct threat to the people’s health, Jayani said that this kind of dishonesty would not be tolerated.He said that strict action would be initiated against the erring all over the state.Further, he said that a health worker is responsible of making visit to each family once a month.
“MPHW (Male) would mainly focus on activities which are related to disease control programs, detection and control of epidemic outbreaks, environmental sanitation, safe drinking water, first aid in emergencies like accidents, injuries, burns etc, treatment of common or minor illnesses, communication and counselling, life-style diseases and logistics and supply management at sub-centre.In addition, he would also facilitate ANM in MCH, Family Welfare and Nutrition related activities, said the Minister.
