Students enjoyed flying session and participated in the quiz competition on the concluding day of two-day workshop on ‘Quad Copter’ organised here jointly by the E-Development Cell, IIT Delhi and Electronics and Photonics School of Studies, Pt Ravi Shanker Shukla University (RSU) here on Monday.
Coordinator of the workshop Dr Sanjay Tiwari said that as many as 42 students participated in the workshop including one group of RSU, two groups of BIT Durg, two groups of MATS University and three groups of NIT Raipur. The group of NIT Raipur stood first in the quiz competition followed by MATS University group on second position and BIT Durg group on third position. Registrar KK Chandrakar distributed merit certificates among the participants at the end of the workshop.
On the first day, the participants were made aware of the parts of the Quad-Copter commonly known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drone. Demonstration was given about control and features of UAV. The participants also learnt the assembly of Quad-Copter on the occasion.
Dr Tiwari said that UAV or drone in very helpful in naxal operations as it can trace naxal hideouts in dense forests and monitor their movement and provide information with help of video link. The base camp of UAV is being developed in Nandini Aerodrome of Bhilai Steel Plant. It can also be used for agriculture, wildlife, relief operations and security. It is also helpful in keeping watch on transmission towers, gas and oil pipelines, highways and railway tracks besides home delivery, said Dr Tiwari.
