People experienced a tough time on Thursday, particularly in the morning, as the medical store owners closed the shutters of their shops, protesting against Nainital district administration’s action against some medical stores in the city.
However, things eased after the shutdown was withdrawn following dialogue between the druggist and chemist associations and the district administration held later. The shops opened to the relief of the distressed people.
What proved the trigger for the shutdown call was district magistrate, Nainital, Deepak Rawat’s order to shut two pathology centres and a medical store on Wednesday afternoon during the routine inspection. DM said action was being taken in view of the labs failing to show licenses or valid documents during the inspection.
This aside, DM took a serious note of a medical store in Nainital running sans pharmacy license. DM further found that the person who was selling medicines from the store and the one in whose name the license was issued were different. Besides, the store was found selling Schedule H (prohibited) medicines. The store was ordered to be closed.
However, such inspections and actions following thereof angered the druggists and chemists here.It may be recalled that the medical store owners had expressed ire over Nainital district administration going for such an exercise in Haldwani on June 4.
Things followed after a private medical store in Haldwani had been sealed for irregularities.
