The Bhopal Municipal Corporation on Monday issued notice to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to clear dues of more than Rs21.22 crore within three days. Failing to clear the dues would attract a penalty in which the property of AIIMS could be attached and the water supply would be stopped. The institute would be responsible for the inconvenience, mentioned the BMC in the notice issued to the Director of AIIMS by the BMC officials.

The zonal office of zone 11 has issued notice to the director of AIIMS regarding the clearing of dues. In the issued letter to AIIMS, it has been highlighted that the BMC commissioner has issued notice of Rs18,45,92,510 on August 31, 2014 for property tax and service charges, but the institute failed to deposit the amount and the failure has attracted surcharge of 15 per cent on the dues, which has increased the amount to Rs21,22,81,271 and according to the issued letter, the amount has to be deposited within three days.

The zonal officer has mentioned that the charges have been imposed under the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act and BMC could not provide any relaxation in the charges against the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act. The BMC has imposed service charges on the properties of State Government and Central Government properties and Gandhi Medical College, Hamidia Hospital, Kamala Nehru Hospital and GPO office have been demanded to deposit service charges under the Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act.
