The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), at last, on Friday assured agitating women roadside vendors that shop rooms would be constructed and allotted to all 19 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in city in one month time.
Notably, 67 members of the Shree Jagannath Mahila Samiti had been sitting on a dharna for the last 22 days protesting demolition of their vending zone near the Science Park here.
The BMC had convened a meeting to resolve the women vendors demand for reconstruction of the vending zone. The meeting presided over by BMC Mayor Anant Narayan Jena was attended by Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, MlAs Bijay Mohanty and Priyadarshi Mishra and Commissioner Dr Krishna Kumar. Five representatives of the Samiti too attended the meeting.
All Odisha Raodside Vendors’ Association president Pratap Sahoo, Samiti chairperson Golap Bairiganjan, Namita Barik, Rajani Sahoo, laxmi Parida, P Rajani Dora and Minati Sahoo have thanked the BMC Mayor and others for the decision.
