The anti-encroachment squad of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) faced strong opposition from Ashoka Garden locality and thus the squad had to return without removing the shed of a dairy. In-charge officer of the squad Qamar Shaqib sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Complying the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) during removal of dairies creating pollution and traffic in the city, a team of the anti-encroachment squad reached the Ashoka Garden area to remove a dairy.
Since, the owner of the dairy was not available on the spot, the anti-encroachment squad reached and removed all the belongings. At the same time, the owner reached there and opposed the action. A number of the locals gathered on the spot and started pelting stones at the squad members.
During the operation though one of the owners of the shops tried to immolate himself, but he was stopped by the police and locals and was pacified by the police. To control the angry mob, mild force was used. However, the BMC squad left the place without removing the shed used for dairy. The squad also seized eight cattle from the spot.
The dairy owner Rajesh Tiwari was not only doing dairy business in the city, but had also developed a hawkers’ corner in the name of ‘Tiwari Restaurant’ in the same locality. To remove the encroachments of Tiwari was a major action by the BMC.
Earlier, a dairy in Subhash Nagar area was also removed and razed after a complaint was lodged with the NGT regarding the problem of pollution and traffic due to the dairy and the closure of the dairy was decried. It was found that the dairy has been causing pollution and traffic problems in the area and later Justice Daleep Singh bench issued orders for the closure of the illegal dairies in the city creating pollution and littering the areas.
After the orders were issued the administration and BMC started the campaign to remove the dairies littering and causing pollution and on Wednesday the dairy at Subhash Nagar owned by Rajjan Yadav was removed.
