The members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha took out a symbolic funeral procession of the State Government on Tuesday from Gandhi Park to landsdowne Chowk in protest against hike in the base price of VAT on petrol as announced by the State Government on September 16. The protesters also burnt the effigy of the State Government at landsdowne Chowk while raising slogans against the state government.
The members of BJYM led by its state president Saurabh Thapliyal assembled at Gandhi Park and carried out a symbolic funeral procession of the state government. Thapliyal said that the hike on the base price of VAT on petrol would add to the burden on the common people who have long been suffering from the effects of spiraling prices of essential commodities. The government should withdraw the hike in base price of VAT on petrol without delay. The BJYM will intensify its agitation if the State Government does not withdraw the increased base price immediately, he warned.
