The BJP Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir urging him to intervene in ensuring holding free and fair Students’ Union elections in universities and colleges throughout the State.
BJYM members said the ruling party through its Government machinery and muscle power tries every year to destroy the academic and democratic atmosphere of colleges and universities by way of extending all undue favours through college administration and anti-social elements hired by them.
BJYM State president Umakanta Pattanayak said the Vice Chancellors and principals along with the police instead of taking a very impartial stand favour ruling party’s candidates by crossing all limits of ethics as well as rules and regulations.
He also cited the example of Vani Vihar issue and mentioned in the memorandum that how the entire academic atmosphere of the Utkal University has been destroyed by students’ wing of the ruling party.
“When all the students are in favor of election, why the VC is against thisIJ Because the ruling party is afraid of defeat, the VC at the instance of ruling party is trying so,” said the BJYM leader.
The members urged the Governor to direct all Principals of colleges, VCs and Higher Education Secretary and district administration to hold election as per schedule in a very free, fair and impartial manner.
