BJP activists block NH-33 in protest of murder of party leader

Traffic movement on the NH-33 remained disrupted for more than four hours after a section of BJP activists blocked Dimna Chowk on NH-33 under Ulidih police station area protesting against the murder of a party activist in Mango last evening and demanding immediate arresting of accused.

Two criminals shot dead 30-year-old man, Chhotu Pandit at Daiguttu under Mango police station area on Thursday evening. The victim, who had sustained bullet in the head, was rushed to Tata Main Hospital emergency, where he was declared as brought dead. The murder victim was secretary of BJP's Mango Mandal Committee and had been sent to jail for being involved in the communal violence taken place at Mango in July.

The agitated activists of the party on Friday also demanded Government job and Rs 35 lakh compensation to the dependents of the murder victim.

The blockade was set up at about 11.30 am, and as a result of it, the vehicles including trucks, trailers, cars and two-wheelers remained stranded, causing immense inconvenience to the commuters.

BJP senior workers Anand Jha and Aftab Ahmed Siddique along with over 200 activists participated in the blockade.  Party's state committee vice-president Vikas Singh was also present at agitation.

Though deputy superintendent of police (headquarters-I) KN Mishra rushed to the spot and tried to convince the protesters for lifting the blockade, but in vain. later superintendent of police (city) Chandan Jha arrived at the blockade spot and tried to convince the protesters. The blockade was continuing till the report was being filed.

Notably, 30-year-old Pandit was shot dead by two bike-borne youths due to an old enmity at Daiguttu under Mango police station area last evening. 

The two assailants, identified as Vikas Tiwary and Tezu Singh had fled the spot soon after launching the gun-shot attack on Pandit. 

The victim who was fatally injured was rushed to Tata Main Hospital by his brother, but the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.

On Friday, Pandit's body was taken to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem, and the body was kept in the mortuary after the autopsy was over.  Senior BJP leader and state food and civil supply minister Saryu Roy also went to the post-mortem house.

Deputy Superintendent of police (headquarters-I) KN Mishra said: "We are conducting raids at the every places for arresting the two assailants.  If they continue to remain absconding, then we will obtain warrant of attachment of their property soon. We have also increased to strict vigil across the city," Mishra.

However, commuters had to wait for several hours. The blockade inconvenienced some of the families from Jamshedpur who were heading to Kolkata by road.

Commuters faced harrowing due to the jam. "I am scheduled to go to Kolkata for delivering important consignment but I am stuck in jam," said a truck driver.
