BJD and BJP workers on Wednesday indulged in a tussle here over distribution of Madhu Babu Pension cards organised by the Rourkela Municipal Corporation.
According to reports, BJP workers vehemently opposed the programme held at Uditnagar High School in which Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Snehangini Chhuria was scheduled to distribute pension cards among beneficiaries.
They got infuriated as the programme, which had been scheduled earlier for January 4, was changed for visit of the Minister to Rourkela and local BJP MlA Dilip Ray was not invited. In the earlier schedule, Ray had to distribute the cards.
Hundreds of BJP workers went to the venue and shouted slogans against the State Government and the Minister which was opposed by BJD workers present there. Soon, workers of both the parties indulged in a scuffle in which some have reportedly been injured.
It all happened before the Minister reached the progamme site. Normalcy restored at the venue following police intervention. The pension card distribution has been postponed.
