The Bhopalites will witness the musical blend of two cultures, two different backgrounds, but the same poetry at Baroque Music Concert on Saturday.
Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Alliance Française de Bhopal, Indo-French cultural centre, in collaboration with Hotel Jehan Numa Retreat and the French Embassy in India is organising a baroque music concert “leçons de ténèbres- lessons of darkness and raga of the night” on Saturday Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum.
The French musicians will perform with three Indian musicians, experts in Raga. The Indian vocalists will include vocalist Manas Vishwaroop, tabla player Prasad Paadhye and sitar player Chintan Katti.
Notably, the three ‘leçons de ténèbres’ by François Couperin, celebrate the death of Christ by means of a poetic and somber text impregnated with solitude. The night also has its musical homage in northern and southern India, where it takes the form of the ragas of darkness, informed the musicians.
In this programme, the works of louis XIV’s composer will be interspersed with three ragas taken from the traditional Indian repertoire.
The ‘Concert de l’HostelDieu’ consists of a solo vocal ensemble and an orchestra playing on early instruments, who give about sixty concerts annually, which are mainly devoted to the baroque vocal repertoire.
They are frequently invited to perform at international festivals and venues. The performances of the Concert de l’HostelDieu are always marked by a modern and dynamic approach to the baroque repertoire. Many of them involve different artistic disciplines.
Innovative forms are developed and interfaces are created between oral traditions and ‘classical’ repertoire. Their artistic choices are bold and original.
The programme will begin from 7 pm.
