Claiming that police atrocities have increased against the members of fourth estate Bharatiya Janata Party state President, Dr lakshmikant Bajpai said that party would protest in support of the journalists who were beaten by the police in Agra and Etah.
Showing footage of police beating the scribes in respective districts Dr Bajpai said that he has personally met the journalists who were beaten by the police and has offered my support to them.
“At this time of distress the party stands solidly behind these journalists who dared to speak the truth and ask tough questions to the government,” Dr Bajpi said adding that the act of police was really deplorable.
He further alleged that, scribes were beaten intentionally because police could not arrest the robbers who looted trader Dhan Kumar Jain's house and scribes had raised questions about police inaction.
“Instead of solving the crime the police beat up journalists. BJP workers who are staging on week-long dharna in Aligarh, Varanasi, Kannauj and Azamgarh would also raise this issue of persecution of scribes,” he said.
Hitting out at the state government Dr Bajpai said that law and order situation in the state has gone from bad to worse. The government has become intolerant and whosoever is questioning them are being harassed. “The BJP workers are always asking questions and are facing police brutality,” he said.
“Development has come to a naught. Recently the state government declared 50 districts as drought hit. Instead of providing relief to the farmers the government spent over Rs 100 crore in celebration of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s birthday. This shows government is not concerned about development,” he said.
BJP state chief said that Uttar Pradesh government did not take any action when half a dozen people were killed after consuming hooch in Kannauj. The CM only issues action but stay away from taking action against the guilty.
He also said that BJP will continue their protest until Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav takes any action against the accused policemen and excise officer.
