A 59-year-old Assistant Grade-2 employee was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths while accepting bribe of Rs40,000 in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, ACB said on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Rattiram Singh (59), presently posted with District Education Office (DEO) in Kanker, informed ACB officials.
Rattiram Singh had demanded bribe of Rs40000 from a suspended school Convener Jeevanlal Thakur for filing inquiry and reversing the suspension following which Thakur lodged a complaint with ACB. Based on complaint of Thakur, ACB sleuths carried verification and found the complaint as genuine. To nab the accused, a trap was laid by ACB sleuths.
Following the instruction of ACB sleuths, the complainant reached Kanker-based office of the accused along with bribe money as decided between them, said officials, elaborating that Rattiram Singh was caught red-handed with bribe money worth Rs 40000. The accused has been arrested and ACB registered a case in this connection under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act-1988 and investigating the matter further, averred ACB officials.
