Another debt-ridden farmer died in drought-hit Balangir district on Wednesday.
Srikant Selema of Aenlapalli under Puintala block had taken a loan of Rs 35,000 from local moneylenders for paddy cultivation on his three acres of land and vegetables on one acre.
let down by crop loss and loan burden, Selema consumed pesticide on Tuesday night. He was admitted at the District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition. He died on Wednesdaymorning.
Over 150 such distressed farmers have committed suicide in the State in last three months.
Despite the Government’s drought package and loan facility for the Rabi crop, there is no letup in the farmer suicide cases.
