An agitated mob set a city bus on fire after a 2-year-old boy died following collision between a van and a bus at Kayabandha area of Naya Raipur on Wednesday morning, police said.
The boy was in van along with his parents who were en-route to Mandir Hasod, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Neeraj Chandarkar informed.
According to police, five persons have been arrested for burning the bus.
Detailing the incident the, ASP informed that Satyanarayan Chaturvedani (24), a resident of Abhanpur, was going to meet his in-laws at Mandir Hasod in his Maruti Van (CG-04 8A-2291). His sons Himanshu (4) and Manish (2) along with his wife Neera Chaturvedani were also travelling with Satyanarayan.
A city bus coming in from opposite direction collided head-on with the Van at Kayabandha chowk, the ASP said, adding that Manish died on the spot while all others in the Van also suffered injuries. The injured are undergoing treatment in a city hospital.
After the mishap people on the spot gathered and enraged over the mishap and set the bus on fire. later on police reached the spot and arrested five persons and the bus driver.
