The decision of the State education department to send 58 Block Resource Coordinators (BRCs) and Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRCs) back to their respective schools shows that the department hitherto known for favoritism and lethargy has started asserting itself finally. The Director General (DG) school education D Senthil Pandian had recently asked senior officers of education department to undertake a comprehensive review of the activities of the BRC and CRC and take action against those who do not fit the bill.
The respective Chief Education Officers (CEO) of all districts reviewed the performance of BRC and CRC with the help of concerned District Education Officers (DEO), Principals of District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) and Block Education Officers (BEO) and submitted the report to the education directorate.
The CRC and BRC are the basic positions in the education department who are assigned the tasks of training and monitoring the activities of the teachers.
The department sources revealed that the action against some more BRCs and CRCs is on the anvil. It is pertinent to mention here that the department appointed 1250 teachers as BRC and CRC to lend academic support to teachers in the year 2004. However many resourceful teachers managed to get themselves appointed in these coveted positions of the BRC and CRC. Many of these CRC and BRC in fact hold important positions in the teacher organisations and have always managed to shield themselves from any attempt of the department to send them back to their respective schools.
In an attempt to streamline the process of monitoring of schools the department decided to create a separate cadre of Block Resource Person (BRP) and Cluster Resource Person (CRP). This decision of the department was opposed tooth and nail by the BRC and CRC however the adamant department initiated the recruitment process for 984 posts of CRP and 285 posts of BRP in the month of June. Once these CRP and BRP are selected all the CRC and BRC would be reverted to teaching positions.
