In last 10 years, more than 59,000 daughters have entered wedlock under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, conducted by State Government's Women and Child Development Department in Chhattisgarh.
This scheme is being implemented with the objectives to relieve poor families from expenses of organizing marriage ceremonies, to encourage mass marriage, to curb social evil of dowry system, and to refrain from unnecessary expenses on marriage ceremonies.
Women and Child Development department officials informed that in last 10 years under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, 4535 daughters were married off in year 2005-06, 4595 daughters in year 2006-07, 5430 daughters in year 2007-08, 4468 in year 2008-09, 4619 in year 2009-10, 4410 in year 2010-11, 8662 in year 2011-12, more than 9000 girls entered wedlock in year 2012-13, more than 7000 girls were married off in year 2013-14 and nearly 6197 daughters tied nuptial knot in year 2014-15.
Officials further informed that maximum two daughters (age 18 years and above) of BPl families can avail benefit of the scheme. Beneficiary family should be domicile of Chhattisgarh.
The scheme has the provision of spending maximum Rs15,000 on marriage of each beneficiary daughter, which includes goods worth Rs11,500, bank draft of Rs1000 and per beneficiary expense of Rs2500 on organizing mass marriage ceremony.
