AAP to launch public engagement drive tomorrow

Friday, 31 July 2015 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The Aam Aadmi Party State unit on Thursday decided to launch a public engagement programme from August 1 to make people aware about the State Government’s “practice” to suppress the voice of common men using police force.

“The Belbahali incident in Keonjhar district and the resentment of staffs at the Barapada Engineering College in Bhadrak are two bright examples of State Government’s practice of suppressing voice of common men using police forces,” said AAP national spokesperson and State unit organiser Nishikanata Mishra at a Press conference.

The clash between the police and villagers of Belbahali who have been opposing the site of a proposed bridge over river Kushei in Keonjhar district can be sorted out only with talks and mutual understandings, said Mohapatra. Instead of doing so State administration used police forces and even beat the women mercilessly.  He maintained that while the employees of Barapada Engineering College were protesting the illegality done by ruling BJD MlA Prafulla Samal, the police arrested them.

“Such types of undemocratic incidents are happening across the State where fundamental rights of common people have been destroyed by the administration,” said Mohapatra.

Hence, a public engagement programme would be launched from August 1 across the State in order to warn the Government about the misdeeds and make people aware about it also.
