Police on Monday arrested a 30-year-old youth with a loaded pistol from Ranikudar under Kadma police station area. The youth has been identified as Mohit Singh, a resident of Block No 4, Shastrinagar in Kadma and a history-sheeter. Deputy superintendent of police (Headquarters-II) AK Pandey said that they have arrested Mohit with a loaded pistol while trying to kill someone in Ranikudar area.
According to sources, Mohit, who has already been arrested as many as five times in various criminal cases, including for possessing unauthorised fire-arms was in a drunk condition. Police forwarded the arrested youth the Ghaghidih Central Jail having booked under Arms Act.Significantly, the night patrolling has been intensified across the steel city since the past two day. The cops on bikes carry out patrolling from 11 pm till 5 am. As a result of the intensified night patrolling, there has been a remarkable drop in the incidents of thefts, burglaries and other petty crimes.
Newly appointed SSP of East Singhbhum Anoop T Mathew said he will soon review the law and order situation in areas under the 17 existing police stations and over two dozen thana outposts (TOPs) in and around Jamshedpur. “We have decided to beef up night patrolling to check thefts, burglaries and other crimes. For bringing about changes in patrolling, I will have to review the existing police stations and also the TOPs so that a fresh mapping of the areas to be patrolled can be done,” Mathew.
Officials said that constables on foot would be deployed in a stretch of every one km for patrolling. Several other constables would be deployed for the purpose, besides patrolling by the local police.
