3 students drown in Kurud dam

Three engineering students met watery grave while taking bath in a stop dam near Raipur, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Kurud stop dam falling under limits of Mandirhasaud police station late on Monday evening.

According to the police, three students of a private engineering college identified as Mayank Sahu, Dinesh Dhurandhar and Ravi lodhi drowned in Kurud stop dam.

Initial investigation suggests that while taking bath in the stop dam, the victims may have ventured into deep waters. The incident came to light when some passersby have spotted motorcycle and clothes near the dam and alerted police about it following which a search was launched. With the help of local divers, police managed to fish out the bodies of students and also informed their parents.

In this connection, police have registered a case and sent the body for autopsy, said police, adding that based on autopsy reports, further investigation will be carried out.
