Under the scheme of National Urban livelihood Mission (NUlM), an Utthan camp as a first component of the mission was organised in the town hall of Haridwar on Friday. Over 250 students filled the forms in a single day."It is a scheme run by the State Government in which many companies (known as STP - Service and Training Provider) provide training and employment to the urban unemployed youths, free of cost. Companies and the Urban Development Department of the State have signed an MoU by which 70 percent of seats will be reserved for the students under NUlM. This programme will surely be fruitful as the city is industry-based," said Dinesh Sharma, Assistant Nagar Adhikari, Nagar Nigam Haridwar, in an exclusive talk with The Pioneer.
He added that this programme is totally based on the MIS system and none of the company can make fool of the students. There are about 30 different trades, including computer training, plumbing, beautician, cutting and tailoring, food and catering. A boy or a girl can select the trade according to his/her choice and get training and stand on their own. No bar of age and minimum education is there. It is open for all categories of urban area residents. For more details one can visit the website of the department - www. utd.uk.gov.in
He further said that as a second component of the mission, there is a provision of loan of two lakhs for all categories whose family income is less than Rs 2 lakh per annum. The Government will give subsidy of Rs 50,000 for each. For the loaning process, a committee has been formed which will scrutinize the students. This scheme is based on one-student-one-centre-one programme at a time.
