At least 25 websites of Chhattisgarh Government, including that of Chhattisgarh Police have been hacked by a suspected Pakistani national.
However, experts claimed that no crucial data of departments were lost and hacked websites will shortly be restored.
Taking advantage of security loopholes in departmental websites of Chhattisgarh government, a person projecting himself as one 'Rummy Khan', suspected to be a Pakistani citizen, hacked around 25 websites, including those of Chhattisgarh Police (www.cgpolice.gov.in), cgprosecution.gov.in, sericulture.gov.in, cgvyapam.choice.gov.in, cglabour.gov.in and others, said sources in Chhattisgarh Infotech and Biotech Promotion Society (CHiPS), adding that the hacker has posted Pakistani flag along with some remarks on these websites.
Homepage of these websites were defaced and it displays Pakistani Flag with some remarks, said sources.
The hacking of websites had been reported to National Cyber Defence Research Centre (NCDRC), New Delhi, said CHiPS CEO Saurabh Kumar adding that details of Internet Protocols (IPs) addresses visited on the affected websites within a week has also been retrieved as a measure to find out the location of hacker.
Kumar further said that NCDRC is an autonomous unit of the Central Government which works on different issues pertaining to cyber safety and security. "As patches of websites were not updated timely, the hacker managed to hack the websites. The hacked websites were only containing information open to public domain," he said.
Patches of affected websites were not taken up on time resulting in the hacking, Kumar said, adding that "last three updates of patches of Chhattisgarh Police's website were not carried out timely."
Affected websites were put down till the maintenance work of server gets complete and it will be restored soon, Kumar said.
