Punjab Guv condoles Gen Malhotra’s demise
Chandigarh: The Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administrator UT-Chandigarh Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki on Wednesday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Punjab’s former Guv and ex-chief of Army General OP Malhotra, who breathed his last at his residence in Gurgaon on Tuesday. Solanki, in his condolence message, said that Gen Malhotra would be remembered for outstanding services rendered by him as Punjab Guv and Army Chief.
Kalra sworn in as PSSSB member
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday administered the oath of office and secrecy to Jatinder Kumar Kalra as member of Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) at a simple but an impressive ceremony. Spokesperson said that with the induction of Kalra, the total strength of the board had gone up to 13.
Gurgaon girls bring laurels to state
Chandigarh: Two girls of Gurgaon district brought laurels to the State by bagging three gold medals and one bronze medal in the Junior National Equestrian Championship 2015-16, held in Pune. Shyla Singh has bagged individual gold medal in junior (under 18-category) dressage and also bagged gold medal in team. Sasha Singh has bagged individual bronze medal in dressage and gold medal in team (in children category).
Badal clears Ghuman and Hayer’s nomination
Chandigarh: Punjab Government on Wednesday nominated Karan Singh Ghuman (from Sangrur) and Kamaljeet Singh Hayer (from Jalandhar) as members of Punjab State Commission for NRIs. Spokesperson said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal cleared the file in this regard on Wednesday morning. The formal orders regarding their appointment would be issued shortly, he said.
9 new godowns to come up with 97,796 MT capacity
Chandigarh: Haryana State Warehousing Corporation is operating 108 warehouses in the State with a total average capacity of 19 lakh metric tonnes with 105 per cent utilization. Now, it has been decided to construct 97,796 MT capacity new godowns at nine places in the state, said the Minister of State for Food and Supplies Karan Dev Kamboj on Wednesday. He said that these godowns would be constructed under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) scheme at Jullana, Hansi, Barwala, Cheeka, Rajaund, Gheer, Baroli, Israna and Gharaunda.

Chandigarh: PGI Safai Karmchari Union on Wednesday handed over a letter to the Union Health Minister JP Nadda demanding benefits including on-roll job hike in reservation in death-case recruitments. The Union has demanded relief in minimum qualification for a sweeper’s job in PGI along with eliminating written test for job, job for dependent children in case of workers’ death, among other things. Nadda assured them to take every possible step to ensure that these demands are fulfilled in due course of time.
Seven-day NSS camp concludes
Chandigarh: The valedictory function of 300 NSS volunteers participating in the seven-day camp was held at Physics Auditorium, Panjab University (PU). ICSSR director Prof Ronki Ram was the chief guest who motivated the students to work for the betterment of the society. He stressed on more interactive dialogue between teaching and student community for social work. Nagar council clerk caught accepting `10,000 BRIBE
Chandigarh: Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday nabbed clerk of Nagar Council Rampuraful red-handed while accepting `10,000 bribe. Bureau spokesperson said that one Gobind Singh has alleged that clerk lachman Das, posted at Nagar Council of Rampuraful, had demanded `17,000 to issue equitable mortgage certificate and the deal was settled at `10,000. A trap was laid and lachman Das was nabbed red handed while accepting bribe of `10,000, he said.
Punjab dairy dev dept organises 6-week training
Chandigarh: Punjab Dairy Development Department has organised professional training for cattle rearer in their educational centers. Dairy Development Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike said that it is mandatory to impart professional training to cattle rearer to opt farmer for commercial dairy units to supplement their income. He said that dairy development department has designed a six-week Dairy Entrepreneurship Training course for farmers to impart modern training in dairy sector.
