Punjab’s school students to visit PGSC
Chandigarh: Punjab Education Department has devised a novel plan to inculcate scientific knowledge amongst the student community. “A total 10,200 students of Class VI to VIII of all schools in the State would embark on excursion-cum-knowledge trip to Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC), Kapurthala, from December 1 to 11,” said spokesperson. He said the main purpose of these visits is to encourage scientific temper in students and understand things from scientific point of view.
18 state advisory committees constituted
Chandigarh: Punjab Government has constituted 18 State Advisory Committees for all departments so as to streamline its daily activities besides formulating and implementing people-oriented policies in an effective manner besides advising the government on important issues of public interest, said the spokesperson. He said that it would be mandatory for committee to meet once within three months and one meeting of the committee would be held during the session of State Assembly and one meeting must be convened between the two sessions of the Assembly.
Governors of Guj, Punjab, C’garh to attend seminar
Mohali: The Governor of Gujarat, OP Kohli of Punjab and Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Governor Chhattisgarh, Balram Ji Das Tandon would attend Aryans National seminar on December 13 in Chandigarh. All the dignitaries would participate in a National level Seminar on “Empowering Youth of Tribal States” being organised by Aryans Group of Colleges. Dr Anshu Kataria, chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges said that the topic for the seminar have been selected keeping in view that the Chandigarh is becoming an education hub for the tribal state students. The seminar would benefit to empower the youth of these states to widen the career options and Job skills among students.
three-Day int’l workshop conducted
ludhiana: Three-day International Workshop on ‘GIS Mapping and Data Analysis for Animal Health’ concluded at School of Public Health and Zoonoses, GADVASU. The workshop was organised in collaboration with The University of Sydney, Australia. PGS Dean Simrat Sagar Singh chaired the concluding function and congratulated the scientists on the occasion. He also distributed participation certificates to the participants after their successful completion of the workshop.
marathon for communal harmony held
Chandigarh: A five km marathon was organised by AIESEC here from Sukhna lake at 7 am. It was a run for communal harmony as a part of their social responsibility initiative “Tarang 2015” to make the people of tricity realise their duties towards the society and join hands to contribute their bit. Around 250 people gathered at the venue and ran for a peaceful world and demonstrated their support for communal harmony. The marathon ended by felicitation of the winners, who included Manpreet who bagged the first position, Jatinder came second and Karanpreet Singh came third in the marathon.
‘Miss Icon India 2015’ auditions in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: Miss Icon India 2015 event will come to Chandigarh for auditions on December 1 at Showstoppers Dance Studio in Sector 37. The audition will shortlist 50 contestants for the semifinals to be held in Pune, where they will be judged by 3 Bollywood celebrities. PGIMER’s Department receives awards
Chandigarh: The Department of Anatomy, PGIMER received two best poster awards at 63rd National Conference of Anatomical Society of India, held at lucknow. Dr Tulika Gupta, Assistant Professor received National Award – Dr T Kodandaramaiah Memorial Gold Medal on her work on the topic “A Tale of Two Commissures: Morphometry for Safe Surgical Corridors to the Third Ventricle”. Dr. Khayati Sant Ram, Senior Resident, also presented a poster on the topic “Comparative Microanatomy of Suprarenal Glands of Anencephalic and Normal Fetuses of Different Gestational Age Groups” and received National Award – Dr. Manju Naresh Memorial Gold Medal.

Harley owners thunder down roads
Amritsar: More than 900 Harley owners, from across 17 Chapters in India, gathered in Chandigarh and New Delhi this weekend for the largest zonal HOG Rally so far. Celebrating their passion for riding and love for open roads, more than 400 Harley owners from across country participated in unique H.O.G. Parade on November 21 from New Delhi to Chandigarh. This edition featured an exciting line up of activities such as a fusion music nights and a special cultural performance.
Bachpan school celebrates annual day
Chandigarh: The tiny tots of Bachpan , a play school in Sector 71 Mohali celebrated their Annual Day, “BlOOMING BACHPAN” at Shivalik Public School Auditorium, Mohali with a fun filled programme of song and dance. The kids danced with perfection and confidence to a number of songs in English and Hindi and lKG and UKG performed the Bhangra. Chairperson Glenda Nunes said, it is indeed a Herculean task to get kids in the age bracket of 2+ to 5 years perform on stage and appreciated the hard work put in by the of the teachers and staff of the school.
Poetry Day held at School
Panchkula: Woodlands House School (W.H.S.), Sector-8, Panchkula had their “Poetry Day” on Saturday at their school premises. Children started with prayer song, recited poems and sang songs. For Grand Finale they sang “It’s A Beautiful Day”, “Woodlands School”, “Umedon Wali Dhup”, “A Great Grey Elephant” and “Woodlands Oh! Woodlands”. A school spokesman said, learning Poetry is as important as story telling or any other art form. It is our Endeavour to bring all the children on the stage to highlight these skills in them and to see children’s expressions, clarity of speech and pronunciation.

The Jungle Book comes alive at ATS Valley School
Dera Bassi: A bunch of wild animals shared the spotlight this weekend at ATS Valley School, where monkeys, wolves, snakes, a tiger and other furry and feathered creatures performed Rudyard Kipling’s classic, The Jungle Book. The school students brought the classic tale to life, and they did it all with the help of the school staff. The Jungle Book was staged to mark the 3rd Annual Day of the school here.
