‘Declare B’ngir, Subarnapur totally drought-hit’

Balangir: President of the Ang Irrigation Project Committee Akash Mishra here on Friday threatened to gherao the District Collectorate on November 3 unless both Balangir and Subarnapur districts are declared totally drought affected forthwith. Moreover, the agriculture loans taken by farmers should be completely waived off, besides waiving off of water tax, he said. Moreover, farmers should be given loan at one per cent interest so that they could take up Rabi cultivation properly, Mishra added.

 

Fair price dal shop opened at Balagir

Balangir: District Collector M Muthukumar on Friday opened a fair price shop for pulses near the daily market here. People can get Grade- A quality arhar pluse at Rs148 per kg and Grade-B arhar at Rs125 and mung dal at Rs110. District Civil Supplies Officer Siba Prasad Dora said, “We have conducted raids in 19 different places of the district and found 63.98 quintals of pulses in Tusura town without proper declaration of price and stocks. The matter is pending in the district Collector’s court.”

 

Disaster Reduction Day observed in JSpur

Jagatsinghpur: The National Disaster Day and Disaster Preparedness Day were observed in district headquarters here on Wednesday. The district administration organised the event which included Padayatra and silent prayer for deceased persons of the Super Cyclone, mock drill exercise by fire service, display of resource evaluation and first aid services by NGOs. A meeting was also held followed by mass lighting of lamps in front of the Smruti Stambha, a memorial pillar for Super Cyclone victims, in front of Collector office.

 

Thrift Day observed at P’khemundi

Parlakhemundi: The Gajapati District Small Savings Office in association with the Small Saving Agents observed the World Thrift Day here on Friday. ADM Sunil Nayak inaugurated the programme by hoisting a flag. On the occasion, a rally was held from the District Small Saving Office to the Maharaja Boys High School covering the entire Paralakhemundi town. The rally aimed at spreading awareness on chit fund frauds and encouraging people to go for postal saving, where they can get good interest in comparison to private saving sector, said Pradeep Padhi. Ten agents and a hundred students of the Maharaja Boys’ High School took part.

Kendrapada: The Kendrapada Sadar police on Thursday arrested one Ratnakar Sethy of Talabaranga here for allegedly producing a forged matric certificate for Home Guard post.
