Vig raids Udla BDO’s house
Baleswar: Vigilance sleuths of the Baleswar Division on Tuesday conducted raids in the house, office and other connected places of Udla Block Development Officer Sucharita Bal in connection with the complaints of disproportionate property. Vigilance sources said simultaneous raids were conducted in Udla block office, official quarter of the BDO and his residence at Mansing Bazar in Baleswar.
B’patna ASI held taking bribe
Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday caught Bhawanipatna Sadar police station ASI Arjun Naik red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2,000 from Tejraj Pradhan of Sohagpur for compromising a case. Complainant Tejraj Pradhan alleged that he had requested the ASI to compromise the dispute with one Dillip Pradhan of his Village on Saturday. Dillip had filed a complaint that Pradhan had assaulted his son of the plea of taking away fish from his pond. The ASI demanded 2,000 for the purpose.
Tourism Day observed in JSpur
Jagatsinghpur: The Jagatsinghpur district celebrated the World Tourism Day involving school and college students here on Sunday. An awareness rally was taken out from College Chowk to the Collector office parade ground covering the entire township. ADM Saran Kumar Jena flagged up the rally and spoke on the significance of the day. Besides, essay, quiz, and drawing competitions were organised among the students and the winners were given prizes. later, several troupes presented folk dance performances, Ghoda Nachha and Sankirtan. Sub-Collector Narahari Sethy, Deputy Collector Bibhuda Mohanty, Tehsildar Umakanta Patnaik, Excise Superintendent Rajat Kumar Praharaj, District Culture Officer Arabinda Jena and Emergency Officer SN Das were present.
JSpur scribe passes away
Jagatsinghpur: Senior journalist and noted human rights activist Somanath Patnaik of Raghunathpur area passed away at the age of 47 following cardiac arrest at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack on Friday. He was working as a scribe for a vernacular daily. Patnaik is also known for his excellent activities in the fields of human rights violation, anti-liquor movement, dowry torture and atrocities on women.
labourer dies at Paradip IOCl site
Jagatsinghpur: A labourer working under a private construction company at the IOCl project site at Paradip died following a mishap on Monday evening. He was identified as Askhya Swain hailing from Jaladharpur under Kujang block. Paradip police seized the body and performed legal formalities after registering a case.
