3,500 join mini marathon in Mayurbhanj
Baripada: For the first time, a Mini Marathon was organised here in Mayurbhanj district under the direct supervision of district Collector Rajesh Prabhakar Patil on the occasion of eminent hockey player Dhyan Chand’s birthday. Nearly 3,500 persons participated in the marathon that began from the Baripada Stadium and covered a distance of 11 kilometer passing through the Aurobinda School Chhak, Fire Station, Belgodia, university Chhak, etc. The marathon was aimed at encouraging sportsmanship and sensitizing people towards making the environment clean and green. Internationally-acclaimed athlete Dutee Chand, Ollywood actor Bijoy Mohanty, Assembly Deputy Speaker Sananda Marndi, Baripada Municipality Chairperson Babita Das joined the programme as guests. District Sports Officer Sanatan Sahu, SP Anup Krishna and Mayurbhanj Athletics Association General Secretary Kishore Biswal joined the event, among others.
Bureaucrats-XI retain Tata Football Fest titles
Bhubaneswar : Defending champion Bureaucrats-XI maintained their supremacy, bagged the champion trophy for the fourth time in a row by defeating Media-XI by 3-1 goals via through penalty kicks in the Tata Friendship Football Championship at Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday. In the nail biting final match between Bureaucrats and Media teams ended in goalless draw in the stipulated time. The Bureaucrats-XI goalkeeper Debi Biswal stood rock solid, while, the Media-XI converted only one penalty shoot and the Bureaucrats converted three strokes. Earlier in the semifinals, Bureaucrats edged out Political-XI by 1-0 goal. SD Durga scored the all important goal and bagged the man of the match award the team entered the final. In another semifinal match, Media-XI beat the host Tata by 3-2 goals via through tie breaker.The match ended in 1-1 goal draw in the allotted time. Bikash Marandi of the winning team received the man of the match award. Debi Biswal and Saswat Mishra of the champion team bagged the best goalkeeper and best half player of the tournament respectively. Ashok Aapat and Bibhuti Biswal of Media team received the best defence and man of the final respectively and Samir Das of Political team won the best forward award. Sanjiv Marik the skipper of Bureaucrats team received the best all rounder of the meet and Panchayati Raj and law Minister Arun Sahu received fare player of the football festival.
Silk city student chess concludes
Berhampur: Arnabha Acharya scored seven points and emerged champion of the Silk City Student Chess Championship at DAV School Brahmapur on Sunday. Swagat Panda and Dibya Sahu scored six points each and finished second and third respectively.
The champion Arnabha received the trophy along with cash award of Rs1,500. The second and third finishers received the trophy along with cash award of Rs1,000 and 750 respectively in the two day long seven round tournament. SK Patra retired DGM IRE and B Panda DGM Sambad gave away the prizes as the guests of the closing ceremony. Among others, Ganjam District Chess Association secretary KK Sarma and HK Rath were present.
