Sarpanch disqualified for having 3 children

Jagatsinghpur: The District Judge Court adjudicating an election case disqualified Gadabisanpur 9 Ersama block) Sarpanch Manasi Kandi, who had been elected in 2013, and ordered him t o hand over the charge to the defeated candidate Gangarani Sethi, who had filed the case. Sethi challenged Kandi’s election on the ground that the latter three children which contravenes the Gram Panchayat Act. The case had first been filed in the Kujang Civil Court, which had disqualified Kandi, but she challenged the order in the District Judge Court.

Kujang lawyers call off cease-work

Jagatsinghpur: The Kujang lawyers’ Association on Saturday called off its cease-work stir, which it had launched demanding establishment of a District Sessions Judge Court at Kujang. The agitation was withdrawn after Jagatsinghpur District Judge Gopal Chandra Behera held a discussion with the lawyers and assured them that their demand would be referred to the High Court and State law Department for consideration. This was informed by lawyers’ association president ND Jadav.  

Symposium on PWDs held in Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: A symposium-cum-awareness camp on persons with disabilities (PWDs) was held here on Saturday with State PWD Commissioner Minati Behera as the chief guest. District Collector BK Upadhyaya presided over the event. The symposium stressed on strict implementation of the PWD Act 1995 and giving equal opportunities, protection of rights and full participation of disabled persons in social mainstream.

Husband arrested in K’pada dowry death case

Kendrapada: The Patkura police have arrested one Gobinda Barik of Naganpur on the charge of his involvement in killing his newlywed wife Subhashree with the help of his family members for more dowries. According to Patkura PS IIC JR Gauda, Subhashree, daughter of Sukadev Barik of Julukipada had married Gobinda in May, and after some days her in-laws and husband tortured her demanding to bring more dowries from her father.

41 girls of R’gada residential school fall ill

Rayagada: At least 41 girls of a residential school at Kereba under Gunupur block in Rayagada district have been admitted to hospital after they fell sick on Saturday night due to suspected food poisoning as they vomited and felt uneasy. They were rushed to the nearby CHC, but later had to be shifted to the Gunupur Sub-Divisional Hospital as there was no marked improvement in their conditions.
