Jeet win State Open Snooker meet
Bhubaneswar: Jeet Das emerged champion of the All Odisha Open Snooker Handicapped Championship, which concluded at Vintage Club here on Sunday. In the final Jeet edged out Rakesh Pradhan 4-2 (17-52,53-42,32-57,66-14,61-10,69-28). In the semifinals, Jeet and Rekesh defeated Satyadeep Das and Subhranshu Kar by 3-1(72-35,87-36,29,58,65-52) and (73-48,33-66,73-65,71-49) respectively.
OWl Office-bearers elected
Berahampur: The Odisha Weightlifting Association (OWl) in its general body meeting, unanimously elected the new office bearers of the Association for a period of four years ( 2015-2019) at Council Hall of Barbati Stadium, Cuttak on Sunday. Those who have been elected to the Executive Council of the Association include Chakradhara Behera as president, Neelamani Sahu as working president, Biswanath Patra as advisor, Narayan Sahu as secretary. Besides, four sports persons who were unanimously elected to the post of vice-president include Hariprasad Pattnaik, lakshminarayan Rout, Manoranjan Das, Kishore Kumar Behera, Chittaranjan Swain, and Bijaya Kumar Satapathy. Similarly, three persons those who have been elected to the post of joint secretary of the Association include Rabi Pratihari, Ramesh Chandra Padhi, and Janaki Ballahav Mishra. While Suryanarayan Satapathy was elected as treasurer. Jangya Narayan Nanda, Durga Madhav Nayak and Gagarin Nayak were elected as the members of the Executive Body respectively. Venkatramaya acted as observer from IWlF while Gyanaranjan Parida remained as observer from Department of Sports and Youth Services and Ashirbad Behera, Secretary of the Odisha Olymic Association witnessed the election process as the observer from OOA respectively. This was disclosed by the OWA Office bearers in a press meeting held at Beer Hanuman Club here at Berhampur this afternoon. The former Deputy Speaker of OlA and BJP Spokesperson Rama Chandra Panda congratulated the newly elected office bearers of the OWA and hopeful that, weight lifting sports will be further strengthened in the Ganjam district which acclaimed international recognition earlier.
Srabani bags bronze in Asian Grand Pix
Bhubaneswar: Srabani Nanda the member of women’s 4x100m relay team bagged yet another bronze medal, this time with a timing of 45.42 seconds while their men counterpart finished fourth, by clocking 39.83s in which Amiya Kumar Mallick was a member in the Asian Grand Prix Athletic Meet -2015 last leg completed at Chanthaburi, Thiland on Monday. But in the 100 mtr event Srabani finished 4th position by clocking 11.73 seconds. Himashree Roy, MG Padmini, Srabani Nanda and Suseentran Archana were the member of the women relay team. Odisha ace sprinter Srabani continued her good form from the recently-concluded Asian Championships to notch up one bronze medal each in the women 100 meter and 4X100 women relay event by clocking 11.72 and 45.33 seconds respectively in the 2nd leg of Asian Grand Prix Athletics Series 2015 at Pathumathani, TU Sports Complex. Earlier, Srabani bagged bronze medal by clocking 11.58 seconds in the 100 meter women race of the 1st leg Asian Grand Pix athletic meet. Srabani grabbed four bronze medals in the Asian Grand pix.
