Ninth Statistics Day observed
Chandigarh: In recognition of the notable contributions made by Professor PC Mahalanobis in the field of economics, planning and development of statistics, Regional Office, National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Chandigarh organized the Ninth Statistics Day at Chandigarh on Monday. The objective of Statistics Day Celebrations is to create public awareness among the people, especially the younger generation for drawing inspiration from Prof. PC Mahalanobis about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation. The day was celebrated by faculty from Panjab University, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics and Statistical Departments of Central and State government and labour Bureau. The theme for Statistics Day- 2015 was ‘Social Development: health, education, poverty, employment, social backwardness, housing and environment.’
Police arrest one for making threat calls
Chandigarh: Haryana Police on Monday arrested the accused involved in threatening over the phone to extort Rs 5 lakh. Those arrested included Jitender and Rinku resident of Kharkhoda in district Sonipat. A spokesman said that on June 20, Ram Kumar, a resident of Rohini in New Delhi had registered a complaint in Kharkhoda police station that some unknown person called at his Karyana shop at Kharkhoda, threatened to kill him and demanded Rs 5 lakh. A team of police officials was immediately formed and in its search operations, the team nabbed the accused from the border of Kharkhoda and the police has taken in its possession the phone used to make the extortion call. The accused were presented before the Court and on its direction was sent to police remand.
M.Com introduced in government College
Chandigarh: Haryana Government has decided to introduce M.Com in Government College, Jagdishpura in district Kaithal from the academic year session 2015-16. The college has therefore been directed to take necessary action regarding staff etc.
Draw of lots for CHB flats to be held in July
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Housing Board will conduct the numbering draw of lots for registration and allotment under General Self Financing Housing Scheme-2008 Sector 63 here in the first week of July 2015. The names of applicants who have not deposited installments along with interest on delayed payments will not be included in the draw of lots. list of such applicants have been displayed on the notice board of CHB as well as the website of UT Administration. The applicants may submit their objections, if any by July 1.
Awareness camp organised
Chandigarh: As a preparatory activity for control of Malaria and Dengue in the coming season the Malaria wing of UT Health Department, on Monday organized health awareness camp/ advocacy workshop at Dadumajra. Dr Amarjeet Kaur (chief medical officer, Health & Family Welfare, Chandigarh) was the chief guest and spoke on prevention and control of Malaria, Dengue and Diarrhoeal disease. Assistant Director Malaria, Dr Anil Garg, stressed on active community participation at all levels to prevent occurrence of mosquitogenic situation in the area. Dr Garg and other speakers urged the workers and general public to maintain vigil on vector and water borne diseases in the area.

Geekz announces expansion plans
Chandigarh: The Geekz, a multinational IT services providers has announced their business expansion plan in India and US in a felicitation ceremony in Chandigarh. The company has also rewarded a top performer employee with a hatchback car. Manvir Singh, CEO of The Geekz said that the company paid more than Rs 50 lakh as incentives to its employees in the past 8 months and gifted a hatchback car to one of their top performers.
