Balimela NAC EO held taking `50K bribe

Cuttack: Vigilance police on Saturday arrested Malkanagiri district’s Balimela NAC Executive Officer Jaydev Das for demanding and accepting bribe of `50,000 from a contractor to release his security deposits of `1,34,073 against nine works. Acting on the complaint of B Arun Patra, a B-Class contractor, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Das red-handed while taking the bribe from the complainant.

Khordha Cesu clerk caught taking bribe

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance police on Saturday arrested Khordha Electrical Division’s Cesu clerk Rabindranath Pradhan on the charge of demanding and accepting bribe of `2,500 from a person to process electrical charging file. Acting on a complaint of Samir Kumar Jena of laxminarayanpur under the Jankia PS, the Vigilance police laid a trap and caught Pradhan red-handed while taking the bribe from Jena.

Man gets lifer for murdering friend

Nayagarh: The District and Sessions court in Nayagarh has sentenced the prime accused to life imprisonment in the murder of a Fireman of the Khandapada Fire Station. The court convicted Hemant Bhoi, a friend of the slain Fireman Bikash Kalas, for committing the crime and pronounced the sentence. Two other accused were set free due to lack of evidence against them. Hemant had brutally killed Bikash after calling the latter from his home on August 11, 2013.

Rape accused gets 10-yr RI in K’mal

Phulbani: District and Special Judge Hiranmaya Besoi awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to one Ratan Digal of Tamangi under the Baliguda police station in Kandhamal district for raping a minor girl for four days after kidnapping her while she was returning from the Niliguda School on April 26, 2013. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 1,400 on the convict, defaulting which he would undergo RI for one more year.

Constables’ passing out parade held in J’suguda

Jharsuguda: The passing out parade of the 22nd Batch Recruit Sepoys and Constables of the Armed Police Training Centre, OSAP 2nd Batallion Jharsuguda was held here on Saturday. A total of 668 Sepoys and Constables completed the training. ADG of Police Arun Kumar Ray, who attended the parade as the chief guest, called upon the Sepoys and Constables to be dedicated to their service. On the occasion, 14 Squad, Instructors, Sepoys and Constables were awarded. DIG (SAP) Dayal Gangwar, Deogarh SP and other senior police officials were present.

Discovery to air show on Nepal quake

Bhubaneswar: The Discovery Channel will air a new programme Earthquake: Disaster in Nepal, which will explore the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that shook Nepal on April 25 and the subsequent 7.3-magnitude earthquake on May 12. The one-hour show will air on Discovery’s factual channels world wide in over 220 countries and territories around the world. In India, the programme will air on June 8 at 9 pm. Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific GM (South Asia & Southeast Asia) Rahul Johri said the programme covers everything from the science behind the events to highly personal stories of people who experienced them.

Jindal school records 100% pass rate

Angul: The OP Jindal School here recorded cent per cent pass rate in the CBSE Class-X examination-2015, results of which were declared on Thursday. Of the total 36 students appeared for the test, 24 secured 9.1 to 10 CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Analysis), five got 8.1 to 9 CGPA, four 7.1 to 8 CGPA and three 6.1-7 CGPA. Expressing satisfaction over the achievement, school Principal Chhanda Charan Das said nine students have scored 10 CGPA.
