Army Institute of law celebrates annual Day

Chandigarh: Army Institute of law (AIl) Mohali celebrated its Annual Day on Wednesday. Presiding over the function, lt Gen K J Singh GOC-in-C Western Command described law as a powerful tool for delivering justice to the victims. While practising, a lawyer must act like a Karamyogi without an iota of partiality in his pursuance of the case, he said. Earlier, lt Gen Singh who is also the Patron-in-Chief of the Institute gave away the prizes to the distinctive students. Established in 1999, the AIl has produced legal luminaries of great calibre. On this occasion, Major General J T Chacko, the Chairman of AIl reiterated his vision to make this institute one of the best law institutions of the country. The function commenced with lighting of lamp by the Chief Guest. It was followed by the reading out of Annual Report by the Principal Tejinder Kaur who narrated the rapid strides taken by the institute during the last 16 years.  The Annual Day coincided with the Raising Day (29 April 1983) of Army Welfare Education Society under whose aegis a number of quality education institutions including AIl are working.

RN Misra, CMD, SJVN Conferred with Award

SHIMlA: R.N. Misra Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN limited has been given legend PSU Shining Award for 2014. The award was presented by Governor of Punjab & Haryana, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki in a function held at New Delhi. On this occasion Director (Finance), SJVN, A.S. Bindra along with other senior officials were present. The News Ink legend PSU Shining Awards aims to honour those who play vital role in Indian Economy and maintaining pace of Economic Growth of India.  Misra said that on the path of expansion and diversification, SJVN has already entered in the field of Wind Energy with the development of 47.6 MW Khirvire Wind Power Project in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. Moreover, the works of 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project are in full swing.

Punjab celebrates World Veterinary Day

Chandigarh: Punjab Government on Wednesday organised a State-level function marking the world veterinary day. The function was organised in collaboration with Punjab State veterinary council. In his keynote address, the animal husbandry Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike extended greetings to all the stake holders including veterinary doctors, veterinary scientists and veterinary teachers for their research methodologies which has brought a revolution in the field of dairy farming, poultry, piggery, fish farming etc.

Festival of Punjabi comedy plays from May 4

Chandigarh: The department of cultural affairs UT, Chandigarh and Tagore Theatre Society will organise a festival of Punjabi comedy plays from May 4 to 6 here at Tagore Theatre. The festival will be inaugurated by Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh in the evening at 6 pm on May 4. Entry to the festival is free. Invitation cards are available at Tagore Theare sector 18 and Chandigarh Sangeet Natak academy sector 34.

Students visit Paryavaran Bhawan

Chandigarh:  As part of conservation drive, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration and Yuvsatta organised a visit for 50 Eco Clubs students of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 37D, to the energy efficient green building of Chandigarh Administration, “Paryavaran Bhawan”, where they also saw exhibition on solar energy products like lamps, batteries, ovens, cookers, solar caps, solar water heating systems etc. Santosh Kumar, Director, Department of Environment & Science and Technology shared that this state-of-the-art building has many green generate its own power rather its power surplus which it exports to the Electricity Department.

Talk for Senior Citizens on Bone Health Care

Zirakpur: The senior citizens forum of Zirakpur got a talk regarding bone health care in old age. A breathing and meditation session was also taken by Sumedha Talwar, a senior Art of living teacher to mark the second anniversary celebrations of Trinity Hospital. Sanjay Tandon, President, BJP, Chandigarh was the chief guest for the occasion. Trinity Hospital has completed second year of delivering health care services in Orthopaedics, joint replacement, super specialised endoscopic spine and knee surgery.

Annual function of UIHTM, Panjab University

Chandigarh: University Institute of Hotel & Tourism Management (UIHTM), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh on Wednesday organised its annual function at PU campus. Principal, Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management (CIHM), T.K. Razdan was the chief guest. Director, UIHTM Prof. Meenakshi, Chairperson, USOl Prof. R.K Gupta and PU Dean Research, Prof. l.K Bansal also graced the occasion. A book edited by Prof R K Gupta, Abhishek Ghai and Anish Slath was released. Aman Pancharas Negi bagged the Student of the Batch 2012-15 Award.
