BSNl inaugurates Next Generation Network

Chandigarh: Next Generation Network (NGN) at Chandigarh and lucknow was inaugurated by Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNl) director (CFA and CM) NK Gupta on March 28 by placing a video call from Chandigarh to BSNl chief general manager, UP (East) Telecom Circle HR Shukla at lucknow. The state-of-the-art technology would work on existing landline. In first phase, BSNl plans to migrate 50,000 lines in Punjab, 6500 lines in Himachal Pradesh, 6000 lines in Jammu & Kashmir, 18700 lines in Haryana, among others on NGN. Under the NGN umbrella, BSNl is planning multimedia video conferencing, all India IP-centrex Group (closed user group of mobile and fixed line customers) fixed to mobile convergence.

BBMB bags top position in 4 sports held by PSCB

Chandigarh: During 2014-15, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) captured top position in four sports — kabaddi, volleyball, cricket and table tennis — held at different places under the aegis of Power Sports Control Board (PSCB). BBMB chairman AB Agrawal, while appraising the performance of BBMB Central Sports Committee, congratulated the team members, their coaches. 

Khanna, Sampla congratulate Badal

Chandigarh: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Avinash Rai Khanna and Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla on Monday congratulated Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal for Padma Vibhushan award conferred by the President Pranab Mukherjee at Delhi. “This award is a true recognition of man of masses who is currently the Chief Minister of Punjab for the fifth time,” said Khanna and Sampla who personally met and congratulated Badal at Delhi.

SBI extends public dealing hours on April 4

Chandigarh: Due to bank or public holidays on April 1, 2 and 3, continuously for three days, in Chandigarh (UT), the State Bank of India (SBI) has extended the public dealing hours by two hours on Saturday, that is April 4, in its all branches under the jurisdiction of Chandigarh.

Haryana government designates SPIOs

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has designated Deputy District Attorney or Assistant District Attorney (legal Cell), all Superintendents in Peshi Branch and Editor Gazetteers unit as State Public Information Officer (SPIO) for Revenue and Disaster Management Department under the Right to Information Act, 2005. Spokesperson said that District Attorney legal Cell, Registrar Peshi Branch and Joint State Editor Gazetteer Unit have been designated as First Appellate Authority, and would provide information pertaining to their respective branches.

Capt Amarinder releases book on sibias

Chandigarh: Punjab’s former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh released a book on one of the popular statesmen of Punjab — Gurbakhsh Singh and the story of SibiaRss forefathers, ‘A life Well lived’ written by his son Karanvir Singh Sibia, at a function held at St Stephen’s School in the city. Karanvir said that gurbani recital in raag basant on a winter morning of January 15, 2013 triggered nostalgic journey into his childhood to meticulously collect those scattered pieces of information about the life of his father which eventually transformed into more research-based documentation of great heritage of states of Jind and Sangrur where his ancestors left a great legacy.

Write HCS’ Annual Confidential Report: Haryana

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has issued instructions for writing of Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) of Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officers for the year 2014-15. Spokesperson said that April 30 would be the cut-off date for blank ACR form to be given to the officer reported upon by personal department specifying the reporting officer and reviewing authority. May 31 would be the cut-off date for self appraisal for current year. Similarly, cut-off date for appraisal by reporting authority would be June 30 and by reviewing authority would be July 31 and by accepting authority would be August 31.

UBS holds talk on SMAll, MEDIUM SCAlE industries

ludhiana: An extension lecture was held on the status of medium and small-scale industry in the University Business School of Panjab University Regional Centre. CII. Punjab State Council chairman and Bhogal Group of Industry head SS Bhogal interacted with the students on the issue of prospects and problems of medium and small-scale industry in Punjab. He also shared scenario of economic and business environment of China and highlighted areas wherein Indian industry need to work hard to compete with their Chinese counter-parts.

AIHM celebrates 25TH annual day

Chandigarh: Dr Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management (AIHM), an institute of hotel management under Union Ministry of Tourism, on Monday celebrated its 25th Annual Day. The event was inaugurated by the Advisor to UT Administrator Vijay Kumar Dev, who was chief guest, accompanied by UT Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal.

 

The theme of annual day was modern art, depicting the contributions by India as well as showcasing art forms from across the globe. Anmol Jain was adjudged as the “student of the year”, Navleen Vedi as “lady of the year”, Sunny Sareen as “gentleman of the year”, among other awards.

Five FIITJEE students shine in NTSE selection

Amritsar: Total five students from FIITJEE’s long duration classroom programme have demonstrated exemplary scholastic brilliance to qualify in National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), 2015, from Punjab. National Talent Search Examination, coordinated by State Council of Educational Research and Training, Punjab, is the most prestigious scholarship exam for school studying students. FIITJEE as an institute has the highest success in any Schooling Program available anywhere across the country. Four-Year Classroom Program student Aayush Chaudhary has topped in Punjab and has scored 132 marks out of 140 marks.
