Book on Odisha journalism history unveiled
Bhubaneswar: Writer and journalism teacher Dr Mrinal Chatterjee’s latest book Odisha Re Sambadikata Ra Itihaas was unveiled by Governor SC Jamir at the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday. The book is a comprehensive work on the history and growth of Odia journalism from its origin till mid-2014 and covers topics on news agency journalism, journalism education, journalists’ associations, women in journalism, journalism in specialised fields such as business, entertainment and sports, photojournalism, cartoon, column and columnist and politics and journalism. The history of journalism of the State’s 13 undivided districts has also found a place in the book.
Phailin coverage: Jajati Karan wins ENBA award
Bhubaneswar: Senior TV journalist Jajati Karan has won the Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards (ENBA) 2014 Award for best spot news coverage of Cyclone Phailin in October 2013. Video journalist Nilakantha Acharya has also been awarded by the ENBA-2014. A 12-member jury led by former Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi selected the winners. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in New Delhi. Journalists and video journalists of different TV channels from the country had applied for this coveted award.
Ravenshaw Botanist body’s meet on Feb 1
Cuttack: The Botanist Association of Ravenshaw College (BARC) will hold its annual conference at the university’s Botany Department premises on February 1. Besides get-together, the annual event will include a series of programmes, including unveiling of the association’s souvenir Aroma, distribution of prizes to scholar students and various cultural and awareness programmes. Association President Prof Bharati Behera has invited all BARC members to attend the symposium in large numbers. The body has been organising the annual meet for the last 25 years.
Dance drama on Meher’s ‘Bhakti’ staged
Bhubaneswar: A dance drama on Gangadhar Meher’s poem Bhakti was staged by cultural organisation Sudha here on Friday. The drama was presented in the Odishi dance form. The artists illustrated Meher’s orientation towards divinity and his belief that God is the ultimate reality. Eminent artists Smitanjali, Diptirani, Kabyanajali, Itishree, Prativa Priyanka, Sakambari, Monalisa, Suchitra, Priyadarshni and Swapna participated in the dance. Former Deputy Director of Culture Dr Buddhadeba Panda was present.
