6 free training courses for unemployed youths
Chandigarh: Punjab Government has initiated six short-term free training courses under ‘Skill to Employment Scheme’ for the youth between the age group of 18 and 28 years. A spokesperson on Friday said that unemployed youth, having passed 8th, can take advantage of these training courses for self employment. The Government has identified 18 recognised institutes to train unemployed youth under the scheme. The Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board would ensure training to unemployed youth, to enable them as self-employable. These six courses included Food Production (cook) course for 8 weeks, Food and Beverages (waiter) course for 6 weeks, housekeeping 6 week, bakery and pastry 8 weeks, skin care and spa therapy course for 8 weeks course.
Surinder Kaur gets Utkrisht Award
Kurukshetra: Kamlesh Kiran Association in Research and Modern Education organised a felicitation function to promote sports and sports research in Chandigarh. Haryana and Punjab Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki gave Utkarisht Award in Sports to Surinder Kaur ACP (Haryana Police) and former Indian Women Hockey Captain and Arjun Awardee. Solanki said sports not only refreshes mind and body also develops discipline, co-operation, and leadership qualities. He also inaugurated the brochure of the KKARM on this occasion.
Meet on Capacity building of women managers
Kurukshetra: The Women’s Studies Research Centre, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, Pennalur, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu are organising a 6-day workshop on Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education from February 2-7, 2015. This workshop is exclusively for SC/ST women faculty members from the Northern States of India. Prof. Pam Rajput, Chairperson, High Powered Standing Committee on the Status of Women in India will be the Chief Guest and Prof. Susheela Kaushik, Former Director Women’s Studies Centre, University of Delhi will be the Keynote speaker.
Quiz on activities of NSSO organised
Chandigarh: The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) has been in the service of the Nation since 1950 and conducting large-scale sample survey on Socio Economic, Annual Survey of Industries, Agriculture and other allied surveys. Highlighting the importance of publicity improving the response in data collection, Harbinder Singh, Deputy Director General emphasised on the need of reliable data. Quiz on the activities of National Sample Survey Office (Field Operations Division) Chandigarh was organised at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector23, Chandigarh in which about 225 students participated along with faculty of school and NSSO staff. Documentary on the functioning of NSSO was also screened.

Cocktail competition ‘INTOXICATION-2015’ held
Chandigarh: Dr Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management, on Friday organised a cocktail competition “INTOXICATION – 2015” for the third year students of Institute. The event was organised in two sections where the students first prepare a Classical Cocktail and then an Innovative Cocktail which was their own creation. The students showcased various aspects of bartending such as flaring and mixing. Bharti Tyagi, Principal of the Institute, said that such events help the students to showcase their talent, creativity and skills which they have acquired with their hard work and dedication during the years in the institute.
