The Congress has managed to save its face in Telangana by winning two of the six legislative Council seats from the local body constituencies, while the remaining four went to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti. Earlier the TRS had won six other Council seats unanimously taking its total tally to 10. The BJP-TDP alliance drew a blank.
Party leaders were happy as Congress had contested only three seats and emerged winner in two of them-one each in Nalgonda and Mehbubnagar. In the constituencies, where polling was held on December 27, TRS won both the seats in Ranga Reddy district and one each in Mehbubnagar and Khammam demonstrating its hold over the local bodies. In Khammam TRS defeated the CPI candidate in what was once the stronghold of the left.
The victorious TRS MlCs later met the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and thanked him. Telangana Congress President Uttam Kumar Reddy also expressed his satisfaction over party’s performance in the Council polls.
