Three Nigerian nationals were arrested for allegedly raping a 22-year-old north-eastern girl in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area, said police on Wednesday
Two north-eastern girls, who reportedly persuaded the victim to accompany them to the rented accommodation of the Nigerians have also been detained by the police.
The victim is a student in Panjab University and had come to stay at her brother’s residence in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area for a few days, said senior police officer. “We received her complaint on Tuesday morning alleging that the one of the three men raped her and other two attempted to rape her.”
The incident came to light when the victim, who first stayed for a day at her brother’s residence, shifted to another place as her brother was living with two men. “Her brother shifted her sister to the residence of two north-eastern girls in the vicinity for sometime, where he thought she will be safe,” added police.
On Monday the two girls asked the victim to accompany them to Uttam Nagar on the pretext of shopping but took her to the residence of three Nigerian nationals. The victim in her complaint alleged that at she was raped by one of the Nigerians and later two other attempted to rape her, added police.
The victim was not rescued by the two girls who took her to the place. She managed to escape back to her brother’s residence and narrated her ordeal to him, added senior police officer.
Her brother took her to Uttam Nagar police station on Tuesday morning and registered a case of rape and attempt of rape. The police traced the two girls who had conned the victim and detained them for questioning and later tracked the Nigerian nationals and arrested them.
The police added that they are trying to find out the details of stay of the three Nigerians in the Capital. “We have contacted the relevant authorities to find out on which Visa the three are staying in the city and whether they have crossed their tenure or not,” said a police officer.
