Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu has said that the Gujarat Government will get aid after a detailed study on the loss of crops due to the unseasonal rain and hailstorm. In a review meeting with Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, senior Ministers and top bureaucrats, in Gandhinagar on Monday, Naidu took a stock of the situation. During the meeting, the Union Minister was informed about the loss to the farmers due to unseasonal rain.
A top bureaucrat present in the meeting said that during the presentation, Naidu pointed out that he and other Cabinet Ministers are travelling across the country to get an estimate on the losses of the farmers. The Union Ministers are travelling following the instruction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministers will submit a detailed report on damage to agriculture sector and on that basis the relief packages will be offered to States.
Meanwhile, he also gave assurance to discuss suggestions given by the Gujarat Chief Minister to the Prime Minister on criteria for availing relief from Calamity Relief Fund. The points raised by the Gujarat Chief Minister will be presented in inter-ministry committee.
In the review meeting, issues pertaining to availability of Urea fertilizer and damage to cotton growers were also discussed. Naidu informed that the Central Government is in process to frame set of laws on crop insurance scheme, rural godown, soil health card and cold storage to provide long term solution to protect farmers.
