India hopes talks between Madhesis, Nepalese Govt bear fruit

Saturday, 31 October 2015 | PNS | New Delhi

India is hopeful that talks between Madhesis and the Nepalese Government

will help ease situation in Nepal and a broad-based political solution will come out soon that is acceptable to all disaffected.

“We understand that talks are going on between Government of Nepal and United Democratic Madhesi Front. We hope these talks are fruitful and will lead to an early political settlement. We also hope such a political resolution of issues facing Nepal will be institutionalised in a manner that would ensure broadbased ownership and acceptance of Constitution by all sections including the disaffected agitating forces”, said Spokesperson for External Affairs Ministry Vikas Swarup on Friday.

He added that India will continue to urge the political parties of Nepal to work out a accommodation with disaffected sections of their population. “There has to be an effort to realize the problem and work to its solution”, Swarup said.

In this context he mentioned Indian efforts to send across trucks carrying Petroleum Oil and lubricants (POl) to Nepal along with food and other essential supplies. “There is no blockage from the Indian side but the obstruction is in Nepal itself. Several hundreds of our cargo trucks are passing through routes that are open. However, due to disturbances on the Raxual-Beerganj crossing point Indian Oil Corporation is able to deliver only 30 per cent of the total supply that is ready to go. We have airlifted turbine fuel to Nepal and can do so in future as well,” Swarup said. Of the total POl sent to Nepal, nearly 70% goes through the Raxual-Beerganj route.
