The CBI on Wednesday carried out searches at the office and residence of M Krishnaswamy, an Indian Revenue Service officer, for allegedly amassing wealth of over `6 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income.
CBI sources said a case has been registered against Krishnaswamy, a Commissioner Income Tax rank officer presently posted as Director (Investigation) at Settlement Commission, Chennai, and eight others, including his family members for possession of disproportionate assets.
The officer and his family members were in possession of assets to the tune of `6.1 crore, the sources said.
They said searches were carried out at 14 places at Chennai, Palani and other places in Tamil Nadu in connection with the case.
The sources claimed the officer had allegedly invested in ‘benami’ properties and some investments in movie business through proxies.
A team of 10 CBI officials conducted searches at Krishnaswamy’s residence and residences of two of his relatives at Palani.
“Searches have been conducted at 14 places including residential and official premises in Chennai, Palani and other places in Tamil Nadu, which led to recovery of documents relating to property worth several crores of rupees, locker details; investments in shares; investments in a private firm and also investments in another company, “a CBI spokesperson said.
“The other accused had allegedly abetted him in commission of said offence. It was further alleged that the public servant had acquired huge assets in the name of his immediate family members and benami holders at Chennai and various other places in Tamil Nadu including at his native village near Palani (Tamil Nadu),” the spokesperson added.
