The CRPF has established 40 Field Surgical Units (FSUs) in Naxal-affected areas in Chhattisgarh to cater to the medical exigencies of its personnel, especially for injuries sustained during operations against the ultras.
The Medical Directorate of the paramilitary is also planning to train 20 constables at reputed medical institutions for smooth functioning of the FSUs. These personnel will undergo Advanced Medic Course at the CRPF Composite Hospital here, Basic Emergency Course at All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ Trauma Centre and First and life Saving Management Course at St Johns Ambulance.
Officials said the Medical Directorate has initiated the process for getting approval of competent authority for approval and required funding.
“Services of FSUs have proved to be very useful and provide timely medical care of any injury during operations,” a senior official said.
The elite anti-Naxal Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) has demanded that more personnel should be trained to be inducted as FSU team members. The FSU is part of any unit undertaking anti-Naxal operations.
