The CBI on Friday reiterated in the Supreme Court that it needs to arrest former telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran as he was not cooperating in the telephone exchange scam and the agency required his custodial interrogation for investigating the case.
With the Supreme Court having stayed an order of the Madras High Court that suspended his bail and asked him to surrender in the case, the CBI filed a fresh affidavit explaining the reasons why it wants the stay to be vacateds. The agency informed the bench of Justices TS Thakur and V Gopala Gowda that Maran was not cooperating with the probe. His custodial interrogation was sought to ascertain facts relating to total loss and usage of these lines, said to be over 400, which the CBI alleged was installed to benefit his family business Sun TV, run by his brother Kalanidhi.
CBI estimated the total loss at `1.78 crore. The bench fixed the matter for November 27 giving time for Maran to respond to CBI’s affidavit.
