Demanding a CBI probe into allocation of `526 crore on advertisements, leader of Opposition in Delhi legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta criticised the Arvind Kejriwal-led Government on Thursday saying the Delhi Government removed all advertisement boards across the Capital after the Delhi High Court’s strict approach on misleading advertisements shows that they were intentionally violating Supreme Court guidelines.
"This proves that Delhi Govt knew that they were intentionally violating the guidelines issued by Supreme Court. Now to avoid punishment, advertisements have been removed by the Delhi Government," said Vijender Gupta.
He said people of Delhi were unhappy with the wastage of `526 crores on advertisements and that Delhi Govt has burdened the people of Delhi financially by imposing VAT on various items resulting in price rise.
"On the one hand Delhi Govt has stopped pension of senior citizens, widows, handicapped on the pretext of non-availability of funds while on the other hand they were wasting `2 crores a day on misleading advertisements. The fund should be used for the welfare of the people but the AAP Government did not pay heed to it," he added.
While hearing PIl, the Supreme Court had issued strict guidelines to all the States, including Delhi, that advertisements should not be released for promotion of Ministers and Chief Ministers.
"Public money can be spent for advertisements on schemes relating to public welfare only. The only exception is that photographs of only President of India, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of Supreme Court can be displayed. The advertisements put up by the Delhi Government promoting Kejriwal are based on false facts," Gupta said.
"Gupta told that Delhi High Court while hearing PIl on August 29 has asked Delhi Government. whether the money used for advertisements has been spent on Govt account or from Aam Aadmi Party fund," he added.
