Result phobia? Class IX student hangs himself

Thursday, 30 April 2015 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Fearing that he would fail in examination, a Class IX student committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Ankit Kaushal. No suicide note has been recovered from his possession.

Police said Ankit had come back around 2 pm from his school after giving examination and locked himself in a room. “After sometime when his mother went to his room, she found him hanging from the ceiling fan after which she screamed for help,” said police.

“The neighbours gathered and Ankit was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors,” said police, adding Ankit stayed with his father Deepak Kaushal, mother Kamlesh and brother Ashwini. He was a Class IX student at a private school and his family stayed in Kalyanpuri area. A case under relevant sections has been registered and further investigations were on.

Police have questioned the family members whether he was pressurised in any manner to get good marks in the ongoing examination. Police added that officials and teachers would also be questioned to ascertain whether he was facing any trouble in the school.
